  • The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) mandates that all diagnostic imaging apparatus maintain a current Certificate of Compliance (CoC). This certification verifies that shielding and equipment performance comply with regulatory standards and the ALARA principle.

    Testing is required upon initial installation, at regular intervals (dependent on modality), and after major upgrades or component replacements. A valid Certificate of Compliance is mandatory for registration on your Radiation Management Licence (RML).

  • Radiation Standard 6 (2024 edition) is the mandatory standard for compliance testing and certification of diagnostic imaging apparatus in NSW. It replaced the old Radiation Guideline 6. It is broken up into the following parts for each modality

    • Part 1 Mammography

    • Part 2 Radiography and BMD

    • Part 3 Dentistry (including maxillofacial)

    • Part 4 Fluoroscopy

    • Part 5 Computed Tomography (CT)

    • Part 6 Veterinary Science

    For room shielding layout, design and general compliance requirements Radiation Guideline 7 is used

  • At Medical Radiation Consultancy we are accredited testers for the following X-ray modalities

    • General radiography systems, both fixed room, mobile and chiropractic. BMD DEXA.

    • Fluoroscopy systems both fixed rooms and mobile fluoroscopy such as C-arms (mobile surgery)

    • Intervention Radiography suites such as Cath or Angio labs

    • We also support these modalities in the Veterinary arena

  • We are accredited to provided compliance testing in NSW.

  • Once Your X-ray system has been assessed, we will update the EPA with the results of the compliance test. You will also receive

    • A certificate of compliance (EPA CoC)

    • Detailed checklist itemising how the system performed against the mandatory requirements of the Radiation Standard

    • Detailed tables indicating system set ups, measured data and results

  • We use the Raysafe Unfors X2 Dose meter for all our measurements. This unit is calibrated and serviced to manufacturers specifications to ensure the data captured is accurate and repeatable.
